Two members of the eDOT team just recently got back from the Ukraine where they met with several different groups. One group took them to the 2006 Ukrainian Baptist Union Congress. The Baptists Union is the largest evangelical denomination in the Ukraine and during this congress, they elected a new president. The old president had been the president for 12 years essentially since the Ukraine pulled away from communisim. This new president, Slavic Neseruk, has a real heart for church planting and in his acceptance speech, talked about how 10 churches could come together to plant a church in a village where there were no witnesses for Jesus Christ. It is just awesome how they are moving to plant more and more churches in the Ukraine.
eDOT’s vision has always been to come beside the local church and use technology to help them with their needs. Two needs that were reaffirmed by this group was:
- Need to train pastors that are trying to plant churches but have no formal Bible training. - This is why eDOT has is working with European Bible Schools and Seminarys to develop distance learning programs so that these pastors can get the training they need.
- Need to reach the younger generation - This is where I (Courtney) am going to be a part. Many people have asked me how I could leave youth ministry which I have been doing since being a teenager and the truth is that I will never fully leave youth ministry. God has called me to be a part of a team that looks at how we can use computers and technology to reach out to the younger generations and that will be a major focus of mine. One of the ways we are doing this is installing eLearning Centers where we are able to help people of all ages learn basic computer skills but we can also use them to focus and draw in the teens in the community who are fascinated with computers.
The Ukrainian Christians and other European Christians have needs in their efforts to reach other Europeans for Christ. We are called to help them.
Please pray that our remaining monthly support will come in soon so that we can join our team in Germany to help find solutions to these needs. God bless.
