Shift Happens by Karl Fisch
We use technology to spread the Gospel and help build the church in Europe. Watch this video (about 6 Minutes long) to understand why technology is such a great method for telling about an unchanging God.
Pocket change CAN change the world
The saying goes something along these lines – “If you provide a man with a fish, then he is fed for a day but teach a man to fish then he is fed for a lifetime.” There are many in this world who are visionaries. They know how to provide for their families but are unable to find the financial resources to see their visions out. Are they needing thousands of dollars to do it? No. On average, they just need $650 whether its to buy vegetables to resell in the markets of Togo or supplies for a restaurant in Nigeria or children’s shoes in Bolivia . In our Western mind set, this is not very much money but because of a method called “Microfinancing” and a website called Kiva (which means “Unity” in Swahili), its easy for anyone in the world with a little bit of pocket change (as little as $25) to invest in one of these businesses. Yes, I said “INVEST” – not give away but to be an investor in these businesses. With enough $25 (or more) investments, whole country economies can be changed.
So check it out at Kiva.org and read the Yahoo article about its founders.
For me, this is a great way that “out of the box” thinking and technology, specifically the web, can be used to better mankind.
The King will reply, ‘I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me’ (Matthew 25:37 NIV)
My thoughts are like lightning

My thoughts are like lightning – great flashes of light from heaven; with long spans of darkness in between.

From Courtney: I would agree with this statement.
Photoshop Play
Just taking some time to learn more with Photoshop and brushes. Here is a couple of my afternoon play items:

Computers are…
Computers are incredibly fast, accurate and stupid. Human beings are incredibly slow, inaccurate and brilliant. Together they are powerful beyond imagination.

Motivational Posters
When I was in the “business” world, there were these posters that managers always liked to hang around the office to “motivate” us workers. They didn’t really work but there were a lot of “fun” ones that came out afterwards that we loved.
Anyway, there have been some more of these types of posters being published out there that are from the emerging church (yes, that can be defined in many different ways). I am glad to see these posters out there. To see more of them, check out Emerging Grace Blog but below is a small sample.

Interestingly, the saying with the “Generous Orthodoxy” is the motto of our sending church’s denomination – the Evangelical Presbyterian Church (EPC)
GEM Annual Conference 2007

Last week, we were in Sopron, Hungary for our mission’s Annual Conference. Each year most of our missionaries gather together to connect with each other, worship God together, focus on the “big picture” of what it is we are all called to be about. This was our first of these trips and it was fun but intense.
This year’s annual conference was special as the president of the mission was leaving the mission (what he was called to come to the mission and do has been accomplished, so now its time for a new leader who is to take the mission on its next steps). We had a formal good-bye banquet (which is why we are all dressed up in the picture above). It was a great time.
It was especially grand as we got to see and connect with people we have met through the mission during our time in ministry partner development (i.e. raising our support and getting trained for the field). The above picture is of our Orientation group. Except for one couple who is still raising support (they have had two children since being appointed by the mission which has delayed them raising their support) and a young lady who has decided not to go to the field, we were the last ones to arrive on this side of the pond. So it was great being all together again and comparing what we thought we would be doing on the field and what we are actually doing now that we have gotten hear.
Anyway, feel free to see more pictures of our “Good-bye” party here or in the Photo Album
Also, check out photos of our site-seeing tour in Sopron, Hungary which can also be found in the Photo Album. There are photos like this in there:
